Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers, father figures and fathers soon to be. We hope you get to enjoy some Father’s Day pampering this weekend including some great grilling and chilling.
To make your experience (or the person who is grilling for you) a little easier, let us offer a few tips and tricks to get your grilling going this weekend.
Trick 1: Good prep work. When preparing your food for the grill, using a good mix of marinades and seasoning rubs can take the flavors of your food to the next level. For example, you can combine a tablespoon or two of Moroccan Vegetable Rub and a Mild Extra Virgin Olive Oil like our Chiquitita from Portugal in a bowl to make wet rub to coat your vegetables.
Tip 1: To add great flavor to your food, prepare your meat with a dry rub. Make your own dry rub with a mix of your favorite seasoning including some salt or try one our sweet and spicy rubs like the Honey Chipotle Rub for a little heat or the Honey Habanero Rub for a bit more of a kick. Use 1-2 tablespoons of rub per pound of meat and coat evenly. Leave it in the fridge up to 24 hours before cooking it. Doing so will give your meat a delicate crust on the outside while keeping it moist inside.
Tip 2: When ready to grill that beautifully seasoned meat, take it out of the fridge one to two hours beforehand so that it can reach room temperature. The reason why you want your food to be room temperature is so that it can get those amazing looking grill marks on it.
Tip 3: To prevent your food from drying out, select a BBQ sauce that you can baste onto the food while grilling. If you like to make your own and like your sauce sweet and smoky, we recommend using our Smoked Olive Wood Olive Oil and any of our dark balsamic vinegars like our Maple Balsamic that will take it to the next level.
These are just a few examples of good prep work needed before you start grilling to get maximum flavor.
Now, let’s move on to move on to the fun of grilling.
WAIT!!
Trick 2: Clean Grill. Before we start let’s make sure the grill is clean.
Tip 4: When cleaning the grill do not use a metal wire brush to scrub the grill grates. They can leave behind some of its bristles which canl get caught up in any of the soft meats or vegetable that you just worked so hard to prepare. An alternative to help clean your grill is using a plastic or wooden scrub brush that uses plastic or nylon bristles which are less likely to get stuck to the grill.
Tip 5: After cleaning and lighting the grill, lubricate the grates by using an onion that is chopped in half with a fork stuck in it, then coat the open face of the onion with an extra virgin olive oil and rub on the grill. This will help prevent the food from sticking once you place it on the grill.
I hope these tips and tricks help enhance your Father’s Day grilling experience and make it awesome.
